THE CEDAR RIVER

Cedar River is a small but beautiful blue ribbon trout stream approximately 10 miles long flowing mostly westward through Antrim County into the Intermediate River in Bellaire.The Cedar River rises in southwest of Chestonia Township, near the boundary with Mancelona Township. It flows mostly west, and then northwest into the Intermediate River. The north branch rises along the boundary between Chestonia and Kearney townships and flows southwest into the main branch about a mile east of Bellaire. This is a fast stream with numerous large holes that hold some equally large trout. Although some Rainbows are known to be in the Cedar, it is home to primarily Browns and native Brookies. Access is limited due to the majority of the river being privately owned.
